Russia is a country with the greatest territorial area of the world. It extends for almost half of Europe and one third of Asia. Russia became an independent country after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. The capital is Moscow.

In the end of the Middle Age, the principality of Moscow had turned into a great empire, expanding its territory to Asia. From the 18th century on, Russia began to turn into a big European power.
