Arctic Ocean in the Globe
Arctic Ocean in the Globe (on the right) with continents around it and its physiography. The Arctic Ocean, the smallest of the world's oceans, is a body of water between Europe, Asia, and North America, mostly north of the Arctic Circle.
There are 8 Arctic nations: Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Russia and United States of America (Alaska). The largest cities located north of the Arctic Circle include Murmansk (the largest city north of the Arctic Circle, a major port and naval base) and Norilsk (an industrial city known for its mining and metal production) in Russia, and Tromsø (a major city in northern Norway and a departure point for polar expeditions) and Bodø (seat of Nordland county) in Norway. Other notable cities and towns in the Arctic region are Kiruna (a mining town and the largest urban area in Lapland, Sweden), Rovaniemi (Finland), and Iqaluit (capital of Nunavut, located on Baffin Island, Canada). Utqiaġvik (formerly Barrow), Alaska is the northernmost city in the United States, and Nuuk, the largest city and capital of Greenland.
